Steve Cotterill will have to check his treatment room before naming the side he will send out in search of a sixth straight win at home to Sheffield United on Saturday.

Three key men are facing battles to be fit –with one pretty much ruled out already. Meanwhile, one of the heroes of Tuesday’s win over Scunthorpe says the Blues must expect a ‘scrap’ against the struggling Yorkshire side.

Liam Lawrence is not yet fit to return to a side he last featured in four games ago, while midfielders Hayden Mullins and Joel Ward are also facing a race to be fit to face the Blades.

Cotterill said: ‘Hayden came off with a calf problem, which is different to the other injury he had. Joel also missed the game with a calf injury.

‘As for Liam, he was never going to play. It was just a gee-up for everybody else. It just looks as though we have filled our bench a little bit more, so I threw him in there. I don’t know at the moment whether any of them will play on Saturday.

‘It’s a little bit early. I don’t really want to think about it just now.’

Meanwhile Dave Kitson, scorer of the first goal against Scunthorpe, says Pompey will need to be on their toes against Micky Adams’ side, who find themselves in the thick of a relegation battle.

Kitson said: “I’ve been in Sheffield United’s position before and it’s not nice. What you can guarantee from a team in that position is that they’ll scrap for every point. I’m sure they’ll set up to make life difficult for us and it might well be the case that it’s 0-0 again at half-time and we’ll have to deal with that once more.

‘That was the case against Scunthorpe and we just had to stay calm to make sure we got the job done after the break. But the five wins have given us confidence and if we can pull our fingers out from the off then hopefully we can add another win.’
