Hermann Hrediarsson’s agent has hinted the defender will leave Pompey if he cannot force his way back into the side.

The Icelandic international has been available for around two monrhs after recovering from the severe Achilles injury he suffered at Spurs last March, and many Pompey fans have expressed surprise he is not in the starting line-up given that the defenders chosen ahead of him have hardly covered themselves in glory.

His agent Olafur Gardarsson says two clubs from England and Scotland have lodged enquiries about him. The 36-year-old has started just one match since returning to the squad back in October and is frustrated at his lack of action.

One club thought to be interested are Rangers, but there has been no confirmation of that.

Gardarsson told The News: ‘A couple of clubs from England and Scotland have come calling during this transfer window. I have told them it must be done by the book and they have to speak to the club.

‘There has always been interest in Hermann during the transfer window since I first started representing him 10 years ago. It’s part and parcel.

‘Of course he is not happy at not playing – no professional footballer would be – but he has not asked for anything. He wants to do his part and help Portsmouth get back to where they belong in the Premier League.’

Meanwhile, chief executive David Lampitt is urging fans not to panic over Pompey’s latest slump. He claims the team are not as bad as recent results have had some believe.

He said: ‘It’s always easy to jump to conclusions when you’re in a bad run – just as it’s easy to jump to conclusions when you’re in a good run. We had a very good run in the autumn and people leapt to the conclusion that we must be play-off material.

‘We may yet be play-off material – I don’t think anyone has given up that hope – but just as I don’t think we were quite as good as everyone made us out to be back then, I don’t think it should be all doom and gloom after a few bad results.’
