Ricardo Rocha has revealed his delight at getting the chance to rejoin Pompey – nd his determination to get the club back where they belong, in the Premier Leauge.

The Portuguese defender, one of the stars of the win at Swansea, was speaking in the build-up to Saturday’s clash with Burnley, which he hopes will see the Blues continue another unbeaten run that can carry them into the top six.

Rocha told the Pompey website: ‘We got back in the groove with an important win at Swansea and now we have to keep that going in our next home match with Burnley on Saturday. The beginning of the season was certainly not easy and we have had a little rough patch but I think we’re capable of putting a concentrated run together.

‘We’ve virtually reached the halfway stage of the season where we've now played almost every other club in the division, and that knowledge will be an asset to us. We know we will lose games along the way, of course, because that is football, but we believe the team can win games and reach the top six.’

Rocha admitted the Championship was proving a dog-eat-dog league but said Pompey could more than hold their own within it.

‘I’m not underestimating anyone else here. This is a very competitive league and we face tough games week in and week out, with teams playing good football. It’s not easy for anyone. You have to be focused 100 per cent in each game to try to win and you have to do your best all the time,’ he said.

And Rocha, who returned to Fratton in August after it had seemed in the summer his Pompey days were over, said he was enjoying every minute of his latest Fratton spell.

‘I love it here. I’m settled and my family are too and it’s an honour to play for this great club. That’s why there was no hesitation on my part in stepping down a league. It's a big club that deserves to be in the Premier League,’ he added.

‘It’s my job to help the club go forward. That’s my goal and it ‘s the goal of everyone else here too.’
