None of it is of his making, but Linvoy Primus suddenly finds himself being asked to repair some of the damage done to Pompey’s reputation in the season just finished.

The administrators want the retired defender to play a central role as the club’s ambassador in repairing and strengthening links with a community in wich plenty have been left wondering why they should still back Pompey.

The move has drawn a mixed response from fans, with some saying getting Peter Storrie off the Pompey payroll would be a better first step in rebuilding the club’s reputation, but administrator Andrew Andronikou insists lining up a big role for Primus in not a gesture.

'Linvoy is very much Mr Pompey and we definitely want to keep him here. He is very important to this football club,’ said Andronikou.

'Talks have already been held over giving him a full-time position, we are very keen on him staying. Linvoy is pretty much the main representative of the club in the community. Bearing that in mind, we want to utilise that and bring the club back into the community.

'We want to show everybody around the city that this is still their football club. Let's face it, financially this club has been in disharmony, it has lost of lot of goodwill among a community which consists of plenty of local suppliers.

'We want to start building bricks again and I cannot think of anybody better than Linvoy at doing that. We see him going out there to ensure the community is more and more involved with the club.

'Gestures are not really part of what we do, this is something we genuinely believe in. Linvoy's had an active role in the club for a long, long time and, considering what has gone on over the last six months, we need to raise the name of the club in the community.

'He also represents a continuity Portsmouth needs and it is important we can keep him here.’
