Jamie O’Hara has thanked Pompey fans for his armful of player-of-the-season awards – and reckons they will be watching a Premier League side again soon.

The midfielder, who swept the board as the awards were dished out on Saturday, believes the club’s decline is about to end to enable the Blues to jump back into the top flight.

O’Hara said: 'This club has a place in my heart, I'll never forget the times I've had here. I'd just like to thank all the fans who have voted for me, it's absolutely fantastic and a great honour to get that reward.

'I've worked hard this season, everyone has been absolutely fantastic towards me and I have loved every minute of playing. It's something you want as a footballer, the adulation, and the fans to recognise how well you are doing.

'Personally, it's a great achievement to win all these awards. It's been amazing for me to come down here and play such a fantastic part and I'm sure the club will be back in the Premier League soon.'

Although O’Hara won’t be at Fratton next season – a number of Premier League teams are reported to be monitoring his situation – one man who is happy to turn out for Pompey in the Championship next term is Steve Finnan.

The full-back has been one of the Blues’ most consistent performers this season, although has missed more games than he’d have liked through injury, and says he is keen to stay at Fratton.

Meanwhile, Pompey are waiting on news of injuries which kept Aruna Dindane and Aaron Mokoena out of the second half of the win over Wolves. The pair are expected to be okay for Wembley, though Richard Hughes has all but given up on his hopes of playing after suffering a hamstring injury. deals
