It's all gone quiet on Lloyd's Pompey bid

Pompey’s administrators say they are still waiting to receive a formal offer for the club from Rob Lloyd’s group.

Andrew Andronikou, speaking on the day he pledged to fight on to get the Blues into Europe next season, said he had not heard from Lloyd for around a fortnight.

Andronikou hopes to take Pompey out of administration by the end of next month and one of the prime contenders for a purchase is Lloyd, or more to the point the unknown buyer he represents. Lloyd began due diligence at the start of this month.

The Guardian is reporting Lloyd had stated an offer would be made during the past week, but Andronikou said he was yet to receive anything concrete.

‘I've had no contact with him for around two weeks. I understand he is in the process of making a formal offer in writing, but I have yet to receive this,’ he told the Guardian.

Andronikou also vowed to battle on in the saga over whether Pompey should be able to play in the Europa League next season. It came on the day Burnley learned they could get into the competition through the fair play system – which presumably means they did apply for the spot, which seems an impressive bit of foresight from those in charge at Turf Moor.

The administrator has admitted it is a long shot but said: ‘Despite recent press reports, the club has not been rejected from entry into next season's UEFA Europa League. UEFA has a strict vetting process for member clubs to enter its competitions, much of which is delegated to the FA and Premier League.

'Although the Europa League is a UEFA competition, the FA is the body that shall grant any UEFA license and the Premier League hold the position of recommending to the FA whether or not a license should be granted to a particular club.

'At present, the Premier League have advised that they will not support a UEFA license application from Portsmouth FC and the FA believe that any application cannot be considered due to the deadline for applications having passed and the club's financial position being under scrutiny.

'As such, although the indications from the FA and Premier League are that they will not support or approve an application from Portsmouth FC, an application has not yet been submitted and has not therefore been considered or rejected.

'Although the Premier League and FA do not support the club's quest to play in Europe, the team's achievements on the pitch by reaching the FA Cup final and thereby obtaining a right to play in Europe on merit demands that everything that can be done should be done to assist the club's application.

'Consequently a formal UEFA license application will be submitted shortly to the Premier League for recommendation to the FA. We truly hope that bureaucracy does not prevail and that a sensible approach can be adopted.

'The license application is strict but not inflexible and it is our intention that the application can be tailored to allow Portsmouth to play in Europe next season as provisions have been put in place to give UEFA comfort that all European fixtures next season will be fulfilled ‘ deals
