Sulaiman Al Fahim has reassured Pompey fans that the prospect of administration - and the inevitable relegation the points deduction such a move would invoke - is not about to happen.

At a meeting of supporters' groups on Friday night - hastily re-organised after Al Fahim initially pulled out 24 hours ago then reconsidered - the club's owner revealed that he hoped to secure a £50 million cash injection in the next few weeks to secure the immediate future of the club.

In a statement at the start of the meeting Al Fahim dismissed the threat of administration in a statement: “I saw the reports about the club possibly going into administration and I dropped everything to come here.

"As I sit here with you today, these reports and rumours are factually incorrect. The continued rumours are also deeply misleading and damaging to the club’s interests to the point where they are threatening to undermine the viability of the club and are damaging my efforts to secure financial stability."

The meeting at Fratton Park, with representatives from 13 websites under the 'Pompey Virtual Alliance' banner as well as supporters' clubs and groups, allowed fans to question the new chairman and owener on a variety of topics.Article continues here

Mr Al Fahim revealed his intention to build a new 'eco friendly' stadium at Horsea was his ultimate goal and also that he was looking for additional investors to join him.

He also insisted he was committed to the club in the long term, even if the team was relegated to the Championship.

And he called on fans to back the team and manager Paul Hart in their fight to stay up: “Our priority at this stage is to ensure that we stay in the Premier League and we must focus on this.

"If we pull together and apply the necessary effort, we will see team performances improve and we will move up the league. We are still at an early stage of the season.”
