Paul Hart has hit out at his critics by defending the way his Portsmouth team have started the season.

Hart has been under major scrutiny after Pompey have failed to take a single point from their opening five games.

Ex-Nottingham Forest boss Hart said ‘No team in Premiership history has ever started with 14 players, no team in Premiership history has ever had to build a team in 48 hours”

New Dubai-based chairman Sulaiman Al-Fahim has told Hart that he will be in charge for the foreseeable future despite the worst start in the club’s 111-year-history.

Hart is adamant that his quick-fix squad can gain an understanding and move off the foot of the table. Article continues here

“Understanding can come overnight or it can take a fair amount of time,” Hart said.

Pompey battle Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday and Hart has praised Martin O’Neill’s men, saying ‘They are a good side; they should be one of the clubs trying to break into the top four.”

Portsmouth will be without Steve Finnan and Papa Bouba Diop with recurring hamstring injuries and Herman Hreidarsson with an ankle problem.
