Algeria midfielder Lazhar Hadj Aissa hasn't given up hope of signing for Pompey in the coming days, despite the fact the transfer window has closed.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been on trial at Fratton Park for a couple of weeks, and even played in a behind closed doors friendly against Reading last weekend.

Reports from Algeria suggest the player has impressed Paul Hart with his technical ability, although there have been some concerns about his general fitness.

Hadj Aissa is trying to extricate himself from his present club ES Setif, where fans are upset with his apparent determination to leave, to the extent that a picture has appeared on a fan website of a photo of the player being burned. Article continues here

In coming to England, Aissa has lost his place in the Algeria squad, but he is desperate to play here and team up with his international colleagues Hassan Yebda and Nadir Belhadj.

If Aissa signs it is because he has able to show he is no longer under contract at Setif and, therefore, is out of work.

As with Danny Webber earlier this week, that would leave him free to sign for Pompey. deals
