Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has reiterated the club's desire to retain club captainand star defender Sylvain Distin, despite interest from Manchester City, Everton and Aston Villa.

FolGlen Johnson and Peter Crouch have left Fratton Park already this summer after the club has been left in financial uncertainty by the prolonged takeover attempt by Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim.

And Distin is in high demand by clubs in and aroudn the top six, including financial heavyweights Man City.

But Storrie is adamant that Distin stays at the club, telling The Portsmouth Evening News: "The situation with Sylvain is very clear, if I wanted to sell him I could have done it two or three times - but I flatly turned him down.

"We have turned down offers and will continue to turn down offers- He's been one of our best players for several seasons now and we want him to stay," Storrie went on.

The chief executive also confirmed the club have offered the Frenchman a new contract, stating: "We have made Sylvain an offer for a two-year extension to his contract- I think he probably just wants to wait and see if we can bring a couple of players in, which we are trying to do at this moment in time."
