Will he or won’t he? Complete his takeover, that is. In truth another day has passed without anyone knowing the answer to that – but the strongest indication of the day in either direction is a positive one.

Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim has said he will be at Fratton Park on Saturday to see ‘his team’ take on Fulham in the opening Premier League game of the season.

It would be a strange thing to do if he were not planning to see through the deal – though sceptics might say he simply doesn’t want to do anything that will increase all the speculation the buyout will not happen.

An appearance by Peter Storrie on The Quay on Wednesday evening offered little new information, especially where the takeover was concerned.

Storrie said he simply could not say when the deal might be concluded – but, unsurprisingly, he could not rule out the possibility of serious problems occurring if Dr Al Fahim did not come in as the new owner.

Storrie also promised up to five new signings were on the way before the end of August, including a couple of names already well in the public domain.

Earlier in the day, the doctor’s camp told The News he would be at Fratton this Saturday in his role as chairman.

Spokesman Ivo Ilic Gabara said: 'Sulaiman wants to go to Portsmouth's match and see them win against Fulham.

'His presence is only natural. He is very interested in the team and how they play but – more importantly – wants to show the fans the importance of the club to him and his commitment to taking it over.

'He's visited the club before and met the supporters – now he wants to watch the team in action. Sulaiman is very much looking forward to it. He is a big football fan and he wants to see Portsmouth do well. He desperately wants to take over the club and is also interested in its future. It is very important to him.

'Once the deal is sorted he wants to regularly attend the matches. He wants to go to every other game, that is what he is telling me and I am sure he will. This is a statement of the commitment he has and I hope everyone will see that.'.
