Sulaiman Al Fahim's hopes of completing his takeover at Fratton Park, now seem to depend on his being able to put together a financial package to suit current owner Alexandre Gaydamak in the next seven days.

Saturday's win over Rangers lifted fans' spirits that the new season might yet not prove to be a nine-month long car crash and the deadline imposed by Gaydamak may well ensure that key elements Sylvain Distin, David James and Niko Kranjcar are still in the starting line up for the Fulham game at least.

With the Sunday Mirror story downgraded from 'takeover off' to 'takeover deadline imposed' its suggests the next week is going to be critical.

Pompey-fans.com, the sister site of truebluearmy.com, was running a story called Inside Track on saturday evening which seems to confirm that Gaydamak has run out of patience. Click here to read it.

Its conclusions chime with the quotes now apperaing in the Mirror story. Article continues here

The only departure being mooted in the sunday tabloids is that of David Nugent to Hull City, despite the fact rumours have been swirling around Distin, Kranjcar and james of late.

The striker apparently came off worse in his fight with Marc Wilson last weekend, but the fact it was the Irishman who was featuring impressively at the heart of the Pompey defence yesterday speaks volumes. Nugent's course at Portsmouth appears to have now run.
