Reports in France suggest Saint Etienne are monitoring the situation of John Utaka.

The Nigeria international can leave Pompey, after a difficult two seasons in which he showed flashes of inspiration, but never with any consistency.

However, the club are looking to recoup as much as they can of the 7 million euros they paid Rennes in 2007.

Utaka has been linked with a move to Stoke, but this doesn't seem to have progressed.

Saint Etienne, managed by former Pompey boss Alain Perrin, have a long list of potential targets both in France and abroad.
