Join the Boro Becks team to celebrate the Discover Middlesbrough’s theme of Great Achievements on a guided walk.

The eight-mile walk is on Thursday, September 20 and starts at Thorntree Park, following the Tees Link path up Spencer Beck to Flatts Lane from where archaeologist Steve Sherlock will guide the group around some of the remains of the ironstone mines which built modern Middlesbrough.

Community Outreach Officer Chris Corbett said: “This walk promises to be a real eye-opener as we take a closer look at the origins of Middlesbrough town and enjoy spectacular views.

“The bravery of the mining communities who toiled to feed the furnaces of industrial Middlesbrough cannot be overestimated.”

The walk starts at 10.30am outside the Pavilion in Thorntree Park and booking is essential - call 01642 515618 or email

Those planning to travel by car need to meet at 10am in the car park at Stewart Park for a minibus ride to Thorntree Park. Minibus transport is provided for the return trip from Eston to Thorntree and Stewart Parks.

Please bring food and a drink and wear appropriate outdoor clothing and strong walking boots as the paths will be muddy and include steep inclines and descents.

For more information about the walks, please ring the Boro Becks Team on 01642 515618 or email
