There is a superb line-up of Sunday special events coming up at the Waiting Room Restaurant, Eaglescliffe. And it all kicks off on a Monday, not Sunday with a special all dayer at the award winning eatery. Yes, the usually off-beat, occasionally on the button, The Matchbox Cabaret presents original, leftfield events at The Waiting Room on Sunday nights.

BH Monday August 27th: All-dayer featuring Jeffrey Lewis and The Junkyard, and Jane Bomebane plus 10 or so more acts! 3pm - midnight. Tickets £15.

JEFFREY LEWIS & THE JUNKYARD: "The finest lyricist of his generation" - Jarvis Cocker. Celebrated New York Antifolk/NewWaveBeatnik, with enthralling, boundless songs, and comics.
JANE BOM-BANE: Spirit of The Fringe Winner. Sally-Army-Punk with amazing mechanical hats for every song.

FRIDAY August 31st THE SWEETBACK SISTERS Irresistible rockabilly/roadhouse/with corset-tight harmonies - on a Friday! Tickets £10

September 2nd SETH FAERGOLZIA (DUFUS): like Jeffrey Lewis and Thomas Truax Seth is another New York/Un-folk artist - joyously experimental and setting rules all of his own. Homemade/punk/free-think/(musical)/anarchist.. + SOUND IT OUT: ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT DOCUMENTARY by Jeanie Finlay - about Tom's record shop. Tickets £8

September 9th THOMAS TRUAX:
The First Admiral of Steam Punk! New York City and Wowtown's finest - creator of fine songs and fine instruments from life’s hard luck and scrapyard loot. + RICHARD MILWARD: Irvine Welsh’s favourite boro writer, reading from his recently completed 3rd book. Tickets £8

September 16th PINEY GIR: Genuine all American country girl and indie-kitsch darling, born and raised in Kansas City. Injects some rock-n-roll with her brand new band, following previous success of her irresistible Country Roadshow. + CORREATOWN:  ...who’s beautiful songs feature on TV shows Ugly Betty, Grays Anatomy, Private Practice... Tickets £8

September 30th MISTY'S BIG ADVENTURE: Grumpy Fun from the acclaimed 8-piece band complete with brass section and the dancing Erotic Volvo - headed up by Grand Master Gareth hailed as "The New God" by John Peel. + THE LINDSAY TIN: New band from Jeans Goes Pop - Lush, sweeping pop songs with crunching bite. Tickets £8

October 7th Selected music from Musicport's World Music Festival tbc Tickets £8

October14th MYSHKINS RUBY WARBLERS: On tour from New Orleans - an enigmatic voice, with an acclaimed rich and complex new album. Post electric rock as well as jazz/folk attitudes. Tickets £8

October 21st FAKE THACKRAY: 
A suitable tribute to Jake Thackray to mark the 10th anniversary of his death - with contributions from Rudolph Rocker, Bob Fischer as well as Fake Thackray of Leeds! Tickets £8

October 28th MELODICA, MELODY AND ME: Fantastic Nu-Indie-Folk band from Brighton - currently shunning theadvances of all the major record labels/would be bedfellows of Mumford and Sons/Bombay Bicycle Club etc. Tickets £8

November 4th SERIOUS SAM BARRETT: Leeds' answer to Bruce Springsteen! at his most traditional ballsy folksy heart. + SERIOUS DAVID BROAD: Charismatic musico who's brilliant heart-felt crooning channels the spirit of Woodie Guthrie, Hank Williams and all the lonesome cowboys of the past bang into our lonesome modern times. Tickets £8

November 11th THE FUGITIVES: Disparate band of Musicians, Poets, Prize Fighters and Flit-Lit Authors trooping across from Vancouver - having played AWESOME gigs at The Waiting Room at the start of time for our Sunday nights. Tickets £8

: Brings this year's 5-Star Edinburgh show to TWR. Very funny! award winner/with a surrealist bent akin to Simon Munnery/Harry Hill and (her husband) Stewart Lee (who played here in 2010). Tickets £10

Novemeber 25th JOSIE LONG: The Queen of Whimsy returns with her latest show - Romance and Adventure. Tickets £16

Doors and food at 6.30pm - Ents from 7.30pm.


(We don't send out actual physical tickets - (please bring proof of your on-line reservation)). Our menu on Sunday nights is about half of that during the week and is written up onto our blackboard on the day).
