A rich tapestry of entertainment awaits you this month at the Georgian Theatre, Stockton, from sultry songstresses through stellar tribute acts to politically tinged theatre.

Kicking off proceedings for September is Essex-based ‘torch-noir’ singer songwriter Gemma Ray. Critically lauded for her four albums and other releases and E.Ps, she may not be the best-known name in the world of female songbirds but she’s certainly one of the most adventurous, intense and interesting.

With a notable 50s/David Lynch quality to her shimmering guitar and powerful, unaffected vocals she brings a rawness and a razor sharp edge to her songs that bite as hard as they brood.

Anyone who needs further convincing, just check out the glowing reviews for her latest offering ‘Island Fire’.

Saturday 8th September. Support from Sarah Proctor. Tickets are £8 (ADV) and £10 (OTD) and doors open at 8pm

Next up is The Good Music Club, boasting local talent aplenty in the shape of The Princes of Monte Carlo, one of the areas longest running groups and now a dedicated cover act for all occasions; Samantha Durnan who was recently selected from 1000s of acts to attend a BBC Introducing Industry session at Abbey Road; and Ellis Raynor, young blood with the voice of an angel on a rapid ascent.

Friday 14th September. Tickets are £4 (ADV) £6 (OTD) and doors open at 8pm

From local talent to some of the biggest acts in the World – well, the next best thing at least with the first ever Counterfest

Spread across three venues comprising KU Bar, The Storytellers and The Georgian Theatre, Stockton, this one day festival of tribute acts to the great and good of Rock and Roll will see acts like Nirvana, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian come to life via the age-old art of the cover band.

Saturday 15th September. Tickets are £9 (ADV) £11 (OTD).

We’re going way back to our roots with BOSS Theatre’s production of a brand new play by Jeff Williams, ‘For Want of A Bob’.

Charting the life and achievements of Stockton’s Public Health Minister Dr. M’Gonigle, who laid the foundations for the inception of the NHS with his battle to improve the diets of Britain’s poorest people at the behest of the Tory Government.

Tuesday 18th-Saturday 22nd September. Tickets are £10 (£7 Conc).

Last but by no means least, is the inimitable Martin Stephenson & The Daintees.

Brilliant British rock/folk/pop with combined elements of rockabilly, show tunes, rootsy pop and straight-ahead rock and punk, The Daintees were a unit through the eighties and early nineties before reforming in 2000 when they toured their much loved 1986 album ‘Boat to Bolivia’ to critical acclaim.

Saturday 19th Sept. Tickets are £12.50 (ADV).
