Shout It from the Treetops

There are some great gigs this weekend and it pains me to pick out anything but I'm looking forward to Treetop Flyers at the Westgarth on Friday. They won the "emerging talent" competition at Glastonbury this year and have played at the Westgarth before as support act. Now they are back in their own right with a superb supporting cast making up a top bill I reckon.

Oh please note that is an early start with Lake Poets going on stage at 7.50pm (to 8.20pm). Cave Painting are on at 8.30pm (to 9pm). Chased By Wolves 9.15pm (to 9.45pm) and finally Tree Top Flyers 10pm (to 11pm - curfew).

Kicking things off Lake Poets, from Sunderland but don't let that put you off because the lad has a great voice and sings from the heart about his grandad, the shipyards and is very much a lyrical northern eastern force to be reckoned with. I think it would be fair to say he stands out from the singer songwriting pack.

I don't know Cave Painting but they hotly tipped and all the way from Brighton and that usually means very good things. I like surprises and this should be the surprise package on the bill.

Chased by Wolves have some epic songs. Two singers, gargantuan guitar riffs and a certain atmosphere and dance about them.

This all leads us to Treetop Flyers, the main men at the head of our crop of creatives. They won that "emerging talent " accolade at Glastonbury this year and photographer Tracy tells me they "played packed tents and stages a number of times across the weekend."

I went to York to catch them in the summer, very ably supporting The Duke Spirit. They pump out guitar riffs to sink your teeth into and melodies to write home about. And check out the hats and luxuriant face furnishing of the hairy kind.
