Martin Rossiter returns to the live arena as a solo artist with a handful of gigs in September, the first being at The Georgian Theatre, Stockton. The former front man with indie pop sensation Gene has had a self-enforced absence from the music industry.  Now the singer/songwriter, based in Brighton, has an album’s worth of new songs ready to perform live before being putting to tape.

Also on next week at the Georgian is critically acclaimed folk singer Emmy The Great will be heading to Stockton’s The Georgian Theatre this September as she heads across the U.K with her latest album, Virtue.

EmmyEmmy, real name Emma-Lee Moss, is originally from Hong Kong and migrated to the U.K. with her family at the age of 12. She was initially a member of the indie folk group Lightspeed Champion, performing as their vocalist for a brief period in 2007 alongside Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine).

She then started work as a solo artist and adopted the nickname Emmy the Great, which she says came about when "I wanted to be a backing singer and I wanted to have something to hand to people... ‘Emmy’ is a name they called me at university, which I hated, and ‘the Great’ I added on because I hated ‘Emmy’ so much."

Her debut album, First Love, was released in 2009 and garnered her mass critical acclaim, as well as many comparisons to Laura Marling; comparisons that still stick today.
