Homegrown Intro Star Bags Songwriting Tips from Beatles Legend

Hotly-tipped Guisborough singer-songwriter Evelyn Burke is set for a Magical Mystery Tour of her own - after being hand-picked by none other than Sir Paul McCartney for a special one-to-one songwriting workshop with the legendary former Beatles man!

Keen followers of the local music scene may remember Evelyn, 20, formerly as the singer in effervescent pop-punks Such Great Heights.

But it’s her solo material that’s really making the music world sit up and take notice.

Now living in Liverpool and studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), Evelyn has been snapped up by top music biz managers and has been busy working in London alongside writers linked with huge names including Dido, James Morrison and Corinne Bailey Rae to name just a few.

But, before meeting Sir Paul, Evelyn is looking forward to headlining one of the Homegrown Stages at Middlesbrough’s Intro Festival this Sunday (5 June).

Evelyn said: “I can’t wait to play at Intro. Going to Music Live has become quite the tradition for me! I went to my first when I was 11 and have been going every year since – even playing at the festival four years ago with my old band Such Great Heights.

“Since going to LIPA I’ve really found my feet as an artist. I’ve been able to experiment and grow in such a creative environment. So it’s great to be able to come back to where it all started and show where I’m at now, at a festival that has so many great memories for me.”

Looking forward to meeting Sir Paul, Evelyn said: “I can’t wait to hear what he has to say about my music and any advice he’s able to give me. I think it’s so great that Paul really gets involved with the school and shows a keen interest in the students creative development.”

This year’s Intro line-up of almost 100 acts across a dozen stages right in the heart of the town centre includes big-hitters Example, Feeder, Chipmunk, Wretch 32, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, former Specials frontman Neville Staple, and huge indie faves Jon Fratelli, Darwin Deez and Miles Kane to name just a few.

No tickets will be available for sale on the day, with advance tickets available from Middlesbrough Town Hall Box Office opening late until 8pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week. Tickets are also on sale at HMV in Middlesbrough, ARC in Stockton and online at seetickets.com.
