Boro festival bags thumbs-up from The Daily Telegraph & The Guardian

Middlesbrough’s Intro Festival made national news over the weekend when it bagged an endorsement from The Guardian as one of the best festivals of the summer!

This year’s tasty Intro line-up of around 80 acts across fifteen stages right in the heart of the town centre includes big-hitters Example, Feeder, Chipmunk, Wretch 32, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, former Specials frontman Neville Staple, and huge indie faves Jon Fratelli and Miles Kane to name just a few.

Recommending Intro as part the paper’s ‘Special Summer of Music,’ The Guardian’s backing comes hot on the heels of similar plaudits from the Daily Telegraph earlier this month.

The Telegraph’s definitive ‘100 Best Festivals in Britain’ picked out Intro for the third year running as one of this year’s highlights alongside world-famous events including Glastonbury, Womad, and the Reading/Leeds Festival.

Graham Ramsay of promoters Ten Feet Tall said: “It’s great news to clinch the backing of the national media folks again this year – there are literally thousands of festivals out there, so to consistently make these Top 100 lists shows that we’ve really got something special.

Middlesbrough lends itself really well to an event like this, with a great set of outdoor spaces and fantastic indoor venues. We’ve got more stages than ever this year – about 15 performance areas in all - and they’re all just a few minutes walk from each other. I think it’s this that really helps set us apart, and that’s why we’re featured so regularly in these guides. And our great line-ups always come in handy too!”

Judith Croft, Festival and Events Manager with Middlesbrough Council, added. “It’s great to be described as one of Britain’s best festivals by The Telegraph and The Guardian.

“This is the second year running that The Guardian have highlighted us as one of the best Festivals in the UK, and they tell us that they are amazed at the value for money we’re providing with the line-up for this year.

“It just shows we’ve got something special going on up here, and that we can stand proudly shoulder to shoulder with some of the biggest summer events in the land.”

Organised by Middlesbrough Council in partnership with local promoters Ten Feet Tall, Intro and its forerunner Music Live has earned a glowing reputation as one of the best places to see the finest up and coming acts - with bands including The Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, Florence & the Machine, Paolo Nutini, Razorlight, Editors and Bloc Party all appearing at the festival before going on to enjoy huge mainstream success.
