Another amazing night of legendary punk shenanigans is on the cards at The Georgian Theatre, with a line up ram packed with blazing talent. Headlining are 1980’s punk conqueror’s The Nightingales, who lay claim to having played more sessions on John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show than any other band after The Fall.

The band formed from the ashes of The Prefects (who were part of The Clash's 'White Riot Tour') and enjoyed cult status in the early '80's as darlings of the credible music scene.

Relentlessly championed by John Peel, the group released a string of critically acclaimed singles and albums, and regularly toured the UK and Northern Europe as headliners and supporting acts to as diverse artists as Bo Diddley and Nico.

Musical connoisseur Peel once said of them - "Their performances will serve to confirm their excellence when we are far enough distanced from the 1980's to look at the period rationally and other, infinitely better known, bands stand revealed as charlatans".

The band reformed in 2004, after calling it a day in the late 80’s and since then they have been more productive than ever. As well as releasing five 7" vinyl singles and three studio albums (plus two live albums), they have toured the globe extensively, including playing major festivals such as Glastonbury and SXSW.

Most recently their track Let's Think About Living was 'Single Of The Week' on BBC 6 Music and they have continued to receive regular rave reviews for their records and live shows. Needless to say this is a night not to be missed.

Also on the line up is deadpan comedian come singer Reverend Ted Chippington, who is another 80s cult legend and counts Stewart Lee and Richard Perring as fans. More punk rock comes from Middlesbrough old timers Shrug, who make a rare outing.

The Nightingales + Ted Chippington + Shrug, Sat 21 May, 8pm, £7 ADV (£9 OTD)
