LEGENDARY band The White Negroes are taking the stage at Middlesbrough Intro Festival – to re-confirm their status as the best live band Teesside has ever produced.

The group celebrated their 20th anniversary with a festival-stealing show on Music Live’s Hairy Lemon stage last summer that thrilled audience and reviewers alike.

Such was the overwhelming reaction to the live performance that the band dismissed any thoughts that they may have had of hanging up their rock ‘n’ roll shoes.

Now the group will proudly take their place at this year’s inaugural Intro festival on the Fly Me To The Moon Stage.

Band spokesman ‘Sweet’ Dick Funk said: “After 20 years of hell raising the lads were wondering if the good folks of Middlesbrough still felt the love.

“But the audience's reaction after the show made up their mind, They were blown away and so were the audience.

“To some people The White Negroes may have the wrong haircuts or they think they just ain’t hip.

“But put ‘em on a stage and they will blow everyone away. FACT! Come to the show are prepare to believe!”

IshThe band went on to play memorable gigs at Hartlepool Tall Ships Race festival, in front of 5,000 rabid hometown fans, and Revival club night @ Medicine Bar in Middlesbrough.

The controversial group - named after Norman Mailer’s seminal 50s beat essay - have been described as ‘stadium rock in a workingmen’s club’ and ‘like U2 on glue!’

In their two decades together the notorious band have drunk The Stranglers’ entire rider backstage at the Newcastle Heineken Music Festival, broke into the film set of the children’s TV show Teletubbies and put the head of Parlophone A&R in a ‘whitey’ when he came to sign them.

The White Negroes play Middlesbrough Intro Festival Fly Me To The Moon stage @ Square One Sunday June 5 (time TBC),
