Music Live set for fresh start on Sunday June 5

Middlesbrough Music Live will be back with a brand new name on Sunday 5 June this year – and organisers are busy making final preparations before announcing the Main Stage line-up and ticketing arrangements next week. (w/c 28 March)

A fresh new name will see the Festival known as INTRO from this year, and will again feature dozens of bands spread across ten stages right in the heart of the town centre.

The current Music Live website now has a temporary holding page displaying the Festivals’ new name – and will be updated with breaking news throughout the coming weeks.

As previously reported, an entry fee will be introduced for the first time this year – with festival organisers describing the move as the most realistic and affordable way to secure a healthy future for the hugely popular not-for-profit annual event.

Organised by Middlesbrough Council in partnership with award winning Boro based promoters Ten Feet Tall, Music Live has built a glowing reputation as one of the best places to see the finest up and coming acts, with The Sunday Times, The Guardian and the Daily Telegraph all highlighting last year’s event as one of the ‘top 100’ festivals of the summer.

Explaining the festival’s new name, Graham Ramsay of promoters Ten Feet Tall said: “We wanted people to view the Festival in a new light, so this is very much a fresh start for us.

“Intro is short, snappy, contemporary, and looks great on a T-Shirt – which is always the ultimate test for any new name!

“It also doesn’t tie us into just live music alone – and opens doors for us to look at anything from comedy to cinema, street theatre to performance art.”

Graham added: “Web watchers have had a sneak preview of our new name as we’ve been working on our new site, and we’re now busily getting everything in place to announce our first wave of bands next week.”

Judith Croft, Festival and Events Manager with Middlesbrough Council, said:

“We feel that Intro can build on what Music Live achieved and come to represent much more than one day in June – and the longer term ambition is that Intro can hopefully develop into a platform for a consistent series of events throughout the year.”
