Mannequin Attic

A few weeks ago I was stuck for an hour when the M1 ground to a complete standstill and threatened to become a car park for the night. The only thing that preserved my sanity was the new demo playing through my car CD system. Mannequin Attic is the group’s name. They’re a high wire rock act, teasing Teessiders with an ear for a sharp tune, and the ability to nail it with a blistering guitar and vocal assault.

A couple of mighty rockin riffs remind me of Alice in Chains. Full on and furious. Occasionally they take the foot half off the pedal but never for long. The sizzling siren’s ready to cast a spell to entrap the unsuspecting reviewer and take him to an altogether darker place.

“Honey” is the catchy honey pot to draw you headlong into the demo. “Closer to God,” is barbed wire electro-shocking therapy. “Never Love You,” grinds and then flicks a switch and hits the turbo and leaves the past for dust. Everything is calm on the surface of “Skin,” then wallop and we are off again far, far too deep.

It’s an exhilarating, danger-laced ride with Mannequin Attic. A real life-saver should you ever be stuck in a static car in a motorway traffic jam.

You can catch Mannequin Attic playing this evening at Walkabout, Middlesbrough.
