An award-winning group of local foodies are rounding off the year in style with their biggest ever Saltburn Farmers Christmas Market on Saturday 12 December.

Winners of Redcar & Cleveland’s ‘Best Social Enterprise Award’ of 2009, Saltburn Farmers Market has become a huge hit since holding its first Easter showcase in 2008.

The bustling market now regularly attracts over 2,000 visitors to the town, and has a waiting list of stallholders keen to join in the fun.

And, brand new for Christmas, local artists are included in a record number of over 30 stallholders, and will be selling their work alongside the Market’s popular mix of organic wines and vegetables; hand-made pies; organic meat and game; hand-made cakes and chocolate; natural home-made skincare products, and hot food to keep shoppers warm on the day.

Organised by Food First, the Market is a social enterprise run by almost 20 East Cleveland and North Yorkshire based retailers and producers who aim to encourage and promote the benefits of locally grown food.

Market organiser Lorna Jackson, from the Real Meals delicatessen in Saltburn, said: “This will be our seventh market of the year, and we’re making sure it’s going to be full of Christmas spirit.

“We’ve even added that extra touch of festive magic this year, with some great artists selling an amazing mix of work - from stained glass windows to willow sculptures - we’ve even got artworks made from recycled surfboards!

“There will be something for everyone here, a really special family day out. Anyone who’s been to the Market before knows just how good the atmosphere is. We can’t wait.”

  • The Saltburn Farmers Christmas Market will take place in Saltburn Portico, outside Somerfield, near Saltburn Railway Station, between 9am-3pm on Saturday 12 December.
