I just heard the news of the sad death of a really top guy, big Boro fan and massive music promoter right across our region, Tom Kitching.
Tom was a real music enthusiast and his roots in putting on shows went back to the Rockgarden days in Middlesbrough. I don't know of anyone that has devoted so many years of their life to promoting live music.
Once he put on an artist he would remain loyal putting them on again and again. People I recall him championing around here included  John Otway, The Hamsters, Dr Feelgood, Vin Garbutt, Julie Felix... so many more. Tom's hand made posters fastened to road signs right across the Moor Road were a thing of legend and certainly caught the eye and did the trick.
Tom was a big Boro fan as well as a supporter of Guisborough Town. It must have been a dream come true when his son Mark entered the Academy. I think he would have been very proud today of Jonathan Woodgate getting the nod as Boro manager because Tom told me of just how much attention and advice Woody gave the youngsters when he was captain and senior pro here.
Many condolences to Tom's family and friends. He will be much missed but I hope they draw some comfort from knowing that he brought the music into commuities across Cleveland and Middlesbrough and enriched so many lives.
