Stockton Calling is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2019 and the North-East’s longest running multi-venue music festival has started the year strongly with announcements coming thick and fast.

The festival’s organisers are excited to announce that Sunderland legends The Futureheads will headline the ARC 1 Stage on Saturday 20th April 2019.

Returning with a brand-new album after a six-year hiatus, The Futureheads are one of the best loved bands in the north-east - if not the country - and will be headlining Stockton Calling as one of their comeback shows.

Paul Burns, of Tees Music Alliance and one of Stockton Calling’s organisers, said:

“We’re all huge fans of The Futureheads and we know that there will be a lot of people overjoyed that they’re back on the scene. We were really pleased to be able to bring them to Stockton Calling as part of their comeback tour. This year’s festival is going to be the biggest and best yet and we’re delighted that The Futureheads will be here to celebrate our tenth anniversary with us.”

Taking the best of post-punk, new wave, and pop as inspiration, The Futureheads racked up five albums and numerous hit singles in the years before their hiatus.

Already announced for Stockton Calling 2019 are indie legends Reverend & The Makers who are headlining KU with stages programmed by north-east promoters The Kids Are Solid Gold and Into Tomorrow already announced.

The Kids are Solid Gold’s stage at The Storytellers will feature some of the best up-and-coming artists in the UK.

Headliners are Isle of Wight’s Plastic Mermaids, who make the long journey north for their highly anticipated return to the North East. With a new album coming later in 2019 and gaining new fans all the time, they’ve been long-time favourites with Teesside audiences.

The Storytellers stage also features Scottish rockers Dancing on Tables, alt-soul from VC Pines, hotly tipped grunge rock from CRYSTAL, Exciting Bradford four-piece Glass Mountain, playful indie rock from Talkboy, and the return of Tyneside’s glorious The Winter Hill Transmission.

Into Tomorrow’s stage at Room21 combines some of the best names in loud, garage rock with more soulful and mod vibes.

Fresh from playing SXSW and The New Colossus festival in New York, local heroes Avalanche Party are headlining.

Also playing are loud rockers Naked Six, London’s mod sensation Emily Capell, two-piece noiseniks Snakerattlers, Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show favourites Weekend Sun, acoustic singer-songwriter Megan Dotchin, and punk ‘n’ rollers The Shakin’ Nightmares.

Tickets are priced at £25 in advance and can be purchased from ARC’s Box Office on 01642 525199 or online at and
