He was one of history’s great explorers – but could Captain Cook navigate a dance floor?

Find out for yourself when the man himself trips the light fantastic with the return of an old favourite.

The newly refurbished Crypt at Middlesbrough Town Hall will host a fund-raising Strictly Tea Dance in aid of the Captain Cook Birthplace Trust on Saturday, January 12.

The commemoration of Marton and Middlesbrough's most famous son will feature live music by the Silverwood Band and performances from The Great Ayton Tea Dancers.

Light refreshments and a bottle raffle will further help to keep those new year blues at bay – and tickets are on sale now at just £4.50.

Middlesbrough Town Hall re-opened in 2018 following a 21-month and £7.7m refurbishment funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Middlesbrough Council.

The building plays host to a range of entertainment including comedians, stars of rock and pop, classical music and more.

Cook embarked on his first great voyage of exploration 250 years ago - an epic journey that would link a small village in old Cleveland to lands and continents on the other side of the world.

The Captain Cook Birthplace Trust was established 40 years ago to help develop a wider knowledge and appreciation of the work of Middlesbrough’s most famous son.

The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Stewart Park offers an inspiring experience to the public, with more than 7,000 people visiting in 2018, of whom one third were young people of school age.
