Residents of Middlesbrough are in for a treat this Saturday, July 7 when a 40-piece Symphony Orchestra Street Orchestra Live! play a whistle-stop tour of the Town arranged by Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Supermarkets, prisons, castles, ships - nowhere is off-limits for Street Orchestra Live!

Street Orchestra

With a mission to take orchestral music to everyone, anywhere, Street Orchestra Live! gives free performances in public spaces and is committed to providing concerts for communities with little or no opportunity to hear live music.

The 40 dynamic players come from UK universities and music colleges to tour twice a year, performing an eclectic range of music from baroque to hip-hop in an upbeat style with dancing, singing and audience participation.
The group was founded in 2016 and has toured London, Brighton, Croydon, Leicester, Coventry, and has been featured on the BBC Travel Show and MTV.

With four to six concerts every day, ranging from hospitals and museums to market squares and carnivals, each tour reaches thousands of people from all walks of life.

Their mini-tour of Middlesbrough on Saturday, July 7 will see them play North Ormesby Market at 11am, Middlesbrough Town Centre at 12.30pm, Albert Park at 2.30pm and Stewart Park at 3.30pm.

The current Summer 2018 tour takes in the whole of the North East from Prudhoe to Stockton and accompanying them as soloist on the tour is the ‘Geordie Tenor’, Austin Gunn, adding operatic classics and popular local songs into the mix.

Lorna Fulton, Head of Programmes at Middlesbrough Town Hall commented

“A performance by Street Orchestra Live! is a different experience from that of any other orchestra and feels more welcome and friendly than a traditional orchestral concert.

“I would urge everyone to try and get to one of their performances on Saturday.”
