There is a new music festival for Stockton coming soon this September  Saturday 12th. Spread over ARC, TMA’s Georgian Theatre and Green Room the festival will feature a mix of contemporary and traditional folk music, based on a programme pioneered by TMA’s Ben Muriel. With a list of quality names taking part.

The Sound of Silence is an event where listening to music is the prime motivation with audience chatter and noise kept to a minimum.

Top head liners are Mercury Music Prize nominated artists; John Bramwell (I Am Kloot),Eliza Carthy and Kathryn Williams, plus RM Hubbert plus Barry Hyde, Rachel Newton and Bridie Jackson & The Arbour with more artists yet to be confirmed.

John Bramwell from the acclaimed Manchester band I Am Kloot will headline in a rare chance to see the frontman play solo. He will be performing a set of classic I Am Kloot tracks including songs from their Mercury Nominated album Sky at Night.

Eliza Carthy has twice been nominated for a Mercury Music Award and has won countless other awards including BBC Radio Two's Folk Award for Best Singer and Best Album.

North East based Kathryn Williams has also previously been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Awards.

Barry Hyde made his success with indie favourites The Futureheads and will be performing tracks from his solo album.

Rachel Newton is a founder member of The Shee, The Emily Portman Trio and The Furrow Collective. Rachel also writes and performs her own solo material and is a much sought after harp player.

Bridie Jackson and the Arbour hail from Newcastle and in 2013 fought off thousands of other artists to win the Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition and with it, a slot at the legendary festival.

The festival will also feature an informal programme of live music in ARC’s café space No 60 as well as sessions in Stockton’s newest real ale bar, The Wasps Nest.
