Plans have been announced for a new multi-venue music event and music conference taking place in Middlesbrough this Autumn. Twisterella Festival is the creation of Middlesbrough’s most dynamic and forward thinking independent music promoters, The Kids Are Solid Gold and Pay for the Piano, and will be centred around the Southfield Road/Linthorpe Road area of town on Saturday 11th October 2014.

The 1000 capacity festival will utilise well established music venues such as Teesside University Students’ Union, The Keys, Westgarth Social Club and Liberty’s, with an acoustic stage planned for TSOne. The event is designed to showcase the brightest emerging national and international music talent and will also give a platform to a select number of local and regional acts who are ready to make the step up to the big stage.

In addition to the live acts, Twisterella will feature an Unconference with the focus on bringing key music industry figures to the town to share their expertise and offer advice to new and developing Teesside musicians.

Festival Co-director Andy Carr said, “We are thrilled to have secured the support of our venue partners who all share our vision of creating a vibrant day of live music right in the heart of Middlesbrough. Teesside is by far and away the best place in the North East to experience new and emerging acts and Twisterella is an important addition to the region’s current portfolio of events.”

One of the things that will set Twisterella apart from other events is that there will be opportunities for local acts to have access to - and benefit from - the wisdom and experience of leading music industry figures. Andy Carr said, “We’re passionate about providing practical support to emerging acts. We want to ensure that the next generation of talented Teesside acts have the support they need in order to progress their careers and ultimately put Middlesbrough and the surrounding area firmly on the music map.”

The promoters involved in Twisterella both have a long history of bringing breaking acts to the region having previously secured Middlesbrough shows from the likes of Mumford & Sons, The Vaccines, The 1975, Palma Violets, Frank Turner, First Aid Kit, Dry The River, Daughter, Pulled Apart By Horses, Drenge, Wolf Alice, Keaton Henson and many more earlier in their careers.

“We’ll be bringing the very best in emerging and breakthrough acts to our town for Twisterella and we’re confident that your new favourite band will be among them,” said Festival Co-director Henry Carden. “We’re intent on creating a vibrant, sustainable event that is 100% designed, made and serviced on Teesside. In addition to Andy and I, we’ll be working closely with various other champions of local music including Bob Fischer of BBC Tees and Grass Route’s Leon Pape. We all passionately believe that Middlesbrough is an amazing place and Twisterella will undoubtedly illustrate that to a wider audience.”

Tickets for Twisterella are on sale now and are available online from:,,, Seetickets, Ticketweb, Ents24 and locally from The Olde Young Teahouse and The Westgarth Social Club.
