Britpop innovators Shed Seven head a string of new names that have been added to this year’s Stockton Weekender, the North East’s biggest outdoor music festival, taking place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July.

Shed Seven, along with acts such as Hyde & Beast, Laurel, New Electric Ride, Weird Shapes, Red Kite, Dark Bells, Lilliput and PALACE join the previously announced Public Enemy, Happy Mondays, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Peter Hook & The Light, Reverend & The Makers, The Amazing Snakeheads and comedian Lee Nelson, at this years event.

Hailing from York, quintet Shed Seven celebrated an impressive fifteen Top 40 Singles and four Top 20 albums in a career that has spanned across two decades.

Mammoth, genre-defining hits such as ‘Going For Gold’, ‘Chasing Rainbows’, ‘Disco Down’ and ‘On Standby’ have given the band longevity that has seen them continue to sell out tours and headline festivals across the UK and Europe since reforming in 2007.

As well as already established household names, Stockton Weekender is well known for pulling in acts on the rise, such as Jake Bugg and Kodaline in previous years.

2014 welcomes haunting pop sensation Laurel, who after uploading just one demo online was signed to Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora’s management and flown out to L.A to record further tracks. With hundreds of thousands of hits on YouTube and Soundcloud, she’s a serious star on the rise.

Aussie post-punk trio Dark Bells head to the Riverside on a tidal wave of music industry excitement, with a tour alongside previous Weekender performers Temples under their belt and 6Music airplay in the bag too.

Red Kite, fronted by former Cooper Temple Clause member Daniel Fisher, combine three guitarists and two drummers in a sound that is both poetic and explosive. They released their debut album ‘Songs for Crow’ in 2013 to critical acclaim.

Sixties-laced rock duo Hyde & Beast, who are fronted by The Futureheads’ drummer Dave Hyde, harmonious folk outfit Lilliput, riotous rumbling rockers Gallery Circus, jangling beat makers The Sons of Bido Lito and The Beatles-esque New Electric Ride fly the flag for Tyne and Wear.

Teesside’s talent is well represented too with acts such as melodic Hartlepool rockers PALACE, Saltburn baroque racketeers By Toutatis, and recent 6Music Festival performers Weird Shapes.

Stockton Weekender festival director Paul Burns said "It's great to add more artists of this calibre to our already fantastic line up. We have a history of programming some real surprises who go on to become huge names, and this year's no exception.

We think that the 2014 Stockton Weekender will prove to be a festival that Teesside can be proud to call its own."

Tickets for the festival went on sale in February and loyal festivalgoers have been snapping up the Early Bird Weekend ticket priced at £35 (subject to booking fees).

The Early Bird Weekend price will be available until Wednesday 30th April and on Thursday 1st May, Day tickets will be released and Weekend prices will rise.

The family friendly event, which offers a children’s activity tent and is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere, will once more offer two free Under 14 tickets for every adult ticket purchased, and the option to camp also returns, an additional cost of £30 on top of a Weekend ticket price.

To help increase accessibility TMA have introduced the option to pay in instalments this year. Festivalgoers can reserve their tickets with a £10 deposit (per ticket) and then pay the rest off as they can, as long as it's all paid for by 25th July. This option is only available over the phone or in person and is subject to terms and conditions.

Early Bird Weekend prices are £35 and £65 for camping. Ticket prices will increase in price from 1st April onwards. Each adult ticket entitles the holder to 2 free Under 14s tickets. Tickets are available online from www.stocktonweekender.co.uk or call 01642 606525.
