Tonight there is an evening of poetry and music planned to celebrate World Book Night in Middlesbrough.

The town’s library service has teamed up with Teesside University to host the event at the Baker Street Kitchen, located on the corner of Baker Street and Albert Road.

Stockton poet and Interim Director of mima Mark Robinson will perform from his collection How I Learned To Sing and also talk about his work at the café between 7pm-9pm on Wednesday, April 23.

He said: “I’m really pleased to be performing in Middlesbrough for World Book Night – especially as I’m currently working just across the road as Interim Director of mima!

“My book, How I Learned to Sing, comes, in part, from my life as a reader, so I'll be talking about that and some of the writers that have been important to me and my poetry.”

Local musician Sara Dennis will then perform while those attending can choose a free book from twenty titles specially curated for World Book Night, which has recently come under the guardianship of The Reading Agency.

Since it began in 2011, World Book Night has created an extraordinary group of 46,000 volunteers, giving books away to over 2 million people and Middlesbrough Libraries is proud to support the event.

Entry is free and booking is not required to attend.
