A brand new event celebrating the best in underground music culture is set to launch on Sunday 25th May with an eight-band bill at The Georgian Theatre and Green Room, Stockton-on-Tees.

Sonic Union is the first in a series of gigs presented by Tees Music Alliance (TMA) with the aim to bring some of the best acts from the underground music scene to Teesside, with an emphasis on the darker end of psychedelic, alternative and blues music.

The debut show is a bank holiday bonanza with a plethora of bands taking over the two venues, both ran by TMA.

Headlining proceedings are brooding, avant-rock trio from Brighton, Esben and The Witch. Their second critically acclaimed album “Wash the Sins Not Only the Face” is full of crashing drums, astral guitar and haunting vocals, which fit perfectly within the gothic settings of The Georgian Theatre.

Joining them is Darlington’s alt-blues stalwarts Goy Boy McIlroy, Leeds based quintet Post War Glamour Girls (pictured below) who play a dark mix of heavy post-punk and Avalanche Party open the stage with their blood-pumping garage-punk, jam packed with screeching guitars and plenty of shouting.

Post War Glamour GirlsOver in the The Green Room there is an equally eclectic mix of music including the Kings of the Teesside psychedelic scene The Glass Moths. Taking fans on a journey across the psychedelic landscape, songs move between intricate sixties psych melodies into thunderous guitar and organ freak-outs.

Manchester’s Fruit Tones, who play an excellent, party inducing mix of garage and surf, Carlisle’s one-man psych-funk loop project Fading Face, and Hartlepool psych-jam band First Process Church of Mars complete the line up.

Stockton’s one and only Sound It Out Records will curate a special pop-up record shop and invade the decks in both The Green Room and The Georgian Theatre as well as special appearances from other psych DJs in both rooms.

Tickets are on sale now priced £7.50 in advance and £10 on the door. Tickets are available online from www.georgiantheatre.co.uk, 01642 606525 or in person from Green Dragon Studios, all prices are subject to booking fees.
