 Thank god...pre season is go!!!
You can keep your Tennis at Wimbledon and all that jazz, it's Premier League football we all want and it wont be long until it's all systems go for another action packed campaign.
The summer has brought us some fresh bodies into the glorious North East as the Toon Army has brought in French midfielder Sylvain Marveaux on a free transfer from Rennes; Senegalese forward Demba Ba also on a free from West Ham; French midfielder Yohan Cabaye from Lille for a fee of €5m and also French midfielder Mehdi Abeid on a free from Lens B.
Now I know what your thinking...there is a canny bit of old French action going on there as magpies manager Alain Pardeux (said in my best Inspector Clueseau accent) appears to be turning us into Le Toon Army!
It's good to see new blood at SJP but so far I am still fairly unimpressed. We are told that the £35m we got from the sale of Andy Carroll will definately be used to strengthen the squad, so what are we waiting for?
Constant rumour surrounds Jose Enrique and Joey Barton. Even Stevie Wonder can see that Enrique wants to leave. Don't get me wrong I think Enrique is a quality player and I want him to stay but let's face facts, he has snubbed a new deal and obviously wants Champions League football. Judging by his performances in the last few games of last season his head is already with another club so why not sell him and get the deal done? If I was Pardew I would be phoning King Kenny of Liverpool who seems to have taken a leave of his player valuation senses so why not cash in on his stupidity?
As for Joey Barton who wants to stay but has had no deal offered, Pardew should simply put his foot down with the board and get him tied to club as soon as possible. In my opinion if uncertainty continues then Barton may get fed up and join the list of Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan and probably Jose Enrique on the Toon P45 list.
On the basis that Enrique goes, we need a quality left back and a good striker as soon as possible. We are told that he money is there so why not splash the cash Mike Ashley?
I'm quite happy that Fabricio Colocinni has been made new captain. To be honest I'd of been equally happy if Joey Barton had been given the armband instead, as along with Colocinni and Enrique they all had a very solid season.
On a slightly different note I have forwarded American Express application forms to both Joey Barton and Nile Ranger as both seem to be having a little trouble getting a Visa (groan!)
