So how can you be 4-0 down after 26 minutes, with a team full of disillusioned players who looked like they had never played together before, yet somehow by full time you end up with a 4-4 draw and leave disappointed that you haven’t won the game?  It could only happen at Newcastle United!  At half time if you had told me we would have been facing Arsenal ladies in the second half then I still would have predicted us to have conceded more goals!  I had us relegated at 4-0 and not scoring another goal again this season, I really did!  Then I thought, well if we can at least get a goal in the second half then it is something positive to take form the game, 4 goals later and we were all in dreamland.

As amazing a comeback it was, where the players showed true grit and determination to drag themselves back up and fight their way back, this second half performance should not paper over the cracks, sorry gaping holes clearly showing in the squad.  We are alarmingly low on numbers now with an injury list growing every week.  We may need a few more heroic performances like the one against Arsenal to keep our heads above water come May.

I did try to do my bit as an Englishman and support the national team on Wednesday night.  I got a pizza in and some cans and settled down to watch.  However the problem with friendly games is that they are pointless, uncompetitive and ultimately boring.  Because of this my mind drifted to all things Newcastle United and this game certainly didn’t help!  Daniel Agger scores early on and I imagined if Carroll had have been fit he would have been marking Carroll, who of course is now his new team mate.  The thought of Carroll in red rather than black and white still hurts.  I then think if Carroll was playing do I want him to do as well as I used to now he has left us?  As I’m contemplating this Darren Bent scores.  Ex mackem, similar question as of that with Carroll?  I don’t celebrate.  Milner is attacking down the wing, so that should be Milner and Carroll both representing England as Toon players, another we let go.  Walcott and Wiltshire are playing 4 days after they faced us for Arsenal.  The same Wiltshire who was moaning at the referee and again after the game about Nolan’s ‘hug’ with the Arsenal keeper and now I have to forget all that and cheer them both on?  I can’t and I got depressed by it all and switched over at half time.  Later on I turned back and Ashley Young has scored and my mind flashes back to happier times in August when he was running around like a headless chicken in a Villa shirt barking at his own players and the officials as we humiliated them 6-0!  I’m depressed again.                                          I switch over again until full time.

Well that was a fun night!  Thoughts of what was and what could have been?  I’m blaming the pizza.
