I seem to be discussing Joey Barton most weeks now and unfortunately this week is no different.          I can’t defend you this time Joey you will have to hold your hands, sorry fists up on this one.  It’s obvious the red mist descended and we saw a flash of the bad old Joey Barton.  I say flash as I’m hopeful in fact confident that’s all it was.  He has lived like a saint on and off the pitch this season, playing the good role model to the extreme at times.  He has been kicked from pillar to post and hasn’t said a word to a player or a referee.  He has time and time again walked away from an incident on the pitch, when he should have been arguing his case or making his presence felt.  He can’t do that anymore, last chance saloon they say but is that not the problem?  We have caged the animal so securely that eventually at some point he was always going to snap and that time came with Pedersen the other night.  If we let him argue with referees and shout and gesture at opposing players like the rest of them then maybe that will allow him to let off some steam and not let things build up so much.  No chance of that. He’d be crucified the first time he opened his mouth at a referee or wound an opponent up (Nolan seems to be our expert in this field).  Unfortunately for Joey the slate will never be wiped clean.

OK I said I couldn’t defend Barton but I ended up doing just that!  Can I also have my say on his reaction to the punch then?  He tried to cover it up by gesturing to Pedersen that it was a push not a dig.  Lambasted in some quarters for this, cheating and trying to worm his way out of it?  Of course he was and I’d have done exactly the same!  Nothing wrong with that is there?  Pretending something didn’t happen during a game?  OK he was covering up something which is probably only suitable for a Saturday night in the Bigg market but what else goes on every five minutes on the pitch that is deceitful?  Appealing for throw-ins and corners that you know for a fact should not be yours.  Every player/manager even fan does it even when we all know it isn’t our ball.  If you shout and raise your arm enough times then the referee will eventually take note and give you a decision whether you deserve it or not.  Whether it is free kicks, penalties, offsides, theatrical dives (Drogba, or perhaps Steven Taylor’s penalty box antics in recent times!) players are persistently trying to get away with whatever they can.  The only thing wrong with Joey’s reaction was the camera caught him and it made him look even more of an idiot than he already was, that’s all.

Williamson Watch – Week 1

Well last week I tipped our Mike to get the first goal in the Blackburn match; well that bet lasted all of three minutes!  So I kept faith thinking it would be a tight affair against Fulham and that he might sneak one at a corner.  I think there was more chance of Xisco scoring, yes even from the bench!

So two games gone and a few quid down the drain.  I can’t give up just yet.  Next up?  Bolton away.  With Barton and Tiote out and Carroll and Ameobi doubtful, surely our only hope of a goal will be from a corner?  If we manage to get one!  So the 40/1 bet stands up again this Saturday.  Come on Willo you can do it!
