In Hughton I trust

“There’s only one Chris Hughton”, “Hughton give us a wave, Hughton Hughton give us a wave.” Two songs that rang out from the stands of St James on such a memorable day for my beloved black and whites.  Both of which, during last season had threatened to erupt but only in small not too confident manner.  On Sunday it felt like he had arrived.  He may not be Jose Mourinho or Alex Ferguson but in his very own right Chris Hughton is finding his feet as a manager and doing the Geordie nation proud.  His achievements last season were nothing short of fantastic and the honest, cool, calm and collected manner in which he has gone about his first season in the big league is something to be admired.  As managers go he is still a young man, a man with bags of potential.  A future great? I’m not sure about that yet, but I know one thing.  We could be a lot worse off.  He cares about his players, he cares about the club and he cares about the fans.  Our club had been tipped to crumble.  We were the next Leeds.  He saved us and despite confidence being at an all time low he turned us into a fearsome championship outfit and runaway title winners.

On bringing the club back to the top flight he has managed us to a start that any newly promoted outfit would be proud of.  A couple of awkward home displays to go with some superb away battles. A thrashing of expected champions league challengers in Villa and most recently the demolition of the old enemy.  A result and performance that, if needed, has provided Chris Hughton with the backing of the toon army.  It is easy to get carried away after an assault like that on the muppets down the road but this man deserves a new contract and he definitely deserves our backing.  The team are behind him.  He has galvanised a squad in the way that only Keegan and Robson have managed before him.  Maybe not quality wise but the spirit shown throughout his reign resembles that of the two previously mentioned eras.

Mike Ashley and his cockney cronies upstairs seem to have a thing with treating people like shite.  As they have done with Chris since releasing that statement after the Arsenal game.  It’s time to get things right Mike.  Give this man the deal he deserves.  If ever a man had earned something, this is it.
