We all pretty much knew that Monday nights trip to Man Ure was just a particularly high calibre extension of our pre-season.  Although we do aim to get a result in every game winning this one was almost as unlikely as Blackpool winning 4-0 away from home on the opening day (“cough, cough”).

In the end it turned out to be a good run out for the lads and for one or two of the premier league first timers could prove to be an invaluable outing.   The likes of Williamson and perch have now been broken in at the toughest place of them all.   The lads came out of the blocks keen and eager to impress and for long parts of the match contained united.  Despite the three goal defecate there are plenty positives to take from the game, even if one of them is the fact that we once again get to laugh at Mr Bartons quality facial slug on Sunday afternoon.

Andy Carroll was awesome by the way.  He had a thankless task up front due to Nolan’s inability to get beyond him (Not a dig, the opposition were immense). Despite this lack of support he proved a real handful for a certain Serbian superstar.  Let’s forget that header.  Our new number 9 looks in great shape and he’s going to prove a real handful for most of the top division.  His fitness is key.

Personally I’m happy enough with Monday nights goings on. There are still four or five quality players at the club that weren’t available plus one or two yet to sign.  After all only one team came out of a full premier league round up with an away result (No prizes for whom that was).  It’s a tough league and we have faltered at probably the toughest hurdle.

Off the pitch there is mass confusion over what is going on with Hatem Ben Arfa.  A signing that I think we need and personally really want to happen.  One minute it’s on, one minute it’s off. Then we hear he’s supping Westgate roads finest latte and telling Marseille exactly where they can shove their training kit.  Although his behaviour almost guarantees he will leave France at some point, when? Is the question.  If he carries on pissing the frogs off they could quite happily dump him in the reserves for a year and watch him suffer.  If this happens we are left losing out on a target that appears to be taking up all our negotiation time and having to wait until January or even next summer for a conclusion.  They all just need to shake hands and get the deal done. Can’t see it though. We’ve seen the likes of Benzema, Chamackh and Nasri have moves delayed by two maybe three seasons due to the stubbornness of the French footballing hierarchy.

We all know that from now on the season doesn’t start until TOON TALK has hit the shelves.

Hopefully by Sunday the likes of Campbell, lovenkrands and Guthrie will all be fit enough to play some part as for me they are all integral to this seasons push.   The atmosphere will be red hot with excitement as the black and whites announce themselves back in the big time.  The ball is in our court with villa in slight disarray with the loss of O’Neill and by the looks of things Milner.   They are there for the taking.

TOONTALK hits the shelves of all good newsagents this Saturday and will be available around the ground before the match on Sunday.  So please people, take time out from flickering through the pages of volume one of the north easts newest and best fanzine.  Get behind our boys and let’s give the villains an afternoon they will want to forget. . TOON TOON !!!!
