The door of the plane opened like the oven after baking-even after 3 weeks in LA this is hot! A late night training session is my first chance to see the new additions to Pardew's squad. Players did a work out in the heat with Ben Arfa looking lively and Haris Vuckic sitting it out with a strain.  Ba had the most chances in the kickabout and looked very very rusty. Afterwards, I got to met the players and there was a nice atmosphere. I moment I will remember for ever is “Shola in a Bowler”

Some people in England have said to me "oh the tour is a waste of time" but I dare you to even think it after meeting US Toon Army America. Before the game I was invited to the fans clubs Tailgate (Beer and BBQ) in the car park where I met people who had driven from all over the continent really highlights the passion we as a club needs to tap. Ben Arfa had a great half hour holding the ball and carrying it forward. This also led to our best chance of the first half when his dribbling run ended in a shot from the byline that clipped the post. Espinoza for Kansas had clipped Ben Arfa already but on 30 mins he slid in and ended Hatems US tour. The toon army took some of the calmer periods in the game to sing some old classics like “when the Beans come out the tin” and “shoes off if you love the toon” but my chant of the night goes to “Geordies in a Sauna, Geordies in a Sauna, trala la la”.

Demba Ba seemed keen to impress but I only hope his eagerness calms before the season starts or maybe he's borrowed Shola's boots. The star of the game for me was Abeid. He came on at half time for Tiote and looked a competent and almost accomplished centre midfielder. Our best chance fell to Simpson with five mins left, but the shot was directed at the keeper- maybe he heard our chants of “if anyone scores, we're on the pitch”.
