Film Recommendation - Gone Girl

2014 thriller starring Ben Affleck and Brit actress Rosemund Pike is being aired on Saturday night at 9.00. It's a pretty uncomfortable watch but still worth recording if your bored one night.

Affleck rarely puts a foot wrong these days (on screen anyway). He can pretty much adapt to playing Matt Damon's wisecracking mate, , bent politicians, pilots, stockbrokers, cops, anything. He doesnt mind being in cringeworthy chick flicks.

In Gone Girl, suburban yuppie Affleck's character becomes the centre of a media storm following the sudden and mysterious disappearance of his missus (Rosemund Pike) out of the blue.

Whilst the police and local community initially rally around in the form of community vigils and media coverage (similar to Shannon Matthews back in 08) it's not long before Afflecks character starts coming under intense scrutiny and suspicion. As with most noir thrillers, everything is not what it seems.

Gone Girl is more than just a missing persons movie. Considering his wife has vanished without explanation, Afflecks flawed character makes some strange choices. GG is a sordid tale of double lives. It will keep you guessing and the twists start around the 45 minute mark.

I have seen Rosemund Pike on stage, around the time she was a Bond villianess in "Die Another Day' she is an astonishing actress.

As I was saying I saw Rosemund Pike in a Tennesse William's classic 'Summer and Smoke' before she became massive time. She spent the whole play speaking in a bible belt accent as well as providing plenty of eye candy for us pervs in the front row.

Very talented actress who plays a brilliant bunny boiler in GG.

Pike is from an upper class background. Surrounded by thespians and luvvies all her life. These people generally have lavender bottoms.

You could spend a year in acting school and you wouldnt hear one trouser cough.
