Sounds like an excellent signing. We needed to replace Ayala.

I'm surprised at this signing. I always thought he was a poor player even for this level. I always thought he was one of the main reasons QPR struggle to push on.

I just checked his stats and I'm shocked at how little football he has played for a 28 year old. Even more shocked that it is being reported as 3 year deal.

Grant Hall

League matches at championship level or higher.
Minutes played 11277 appearances 139

Career league matches only total
Minutes played 13991 appearances 171

Compared with

Dael Fry

League matches at championship level or higher.
Minutes played 8714 appearances 101

Captain and leader for QPR
If Neil thinks he's what we need , fine by me [^]
Does this mean Charlie Goode is a no go ?
Same position , Right centre half .

So in order to shore up our leaky defense we have signed an injury prone player from a team that has conceded more goals than we did last season.

We signed Nigel Pearson as a 31 year old injury prone defender who had only played 140 games at champ level or higher.

Hes exactly what we need, experienced captain, leader and a battler.

Hes made over 30 appearances 3 of his 5 seasons at QPR, the other 2 seasons in the middle he was recovering from a serious injury so that skews his stats.

I think we still need at least 2 more centre backs. Hopefully Gibson and Goode still happen as most teams carry at least four, weve lost Shotton as well as Ayala. Fry is massively overrated, he reads the game ok but is a poor communicator and gets bullied far too easily.

That not true Pearson was much better player and he played above Championship level for 6 of last 7 seasons, won cup and played in the UEFA cup. He also won promotion from Championship level.

Grant Hall has struggled to get a game at Championship level and never played above Championship level.

Pearson league appearances stats:

Shrewsbury Town - 153 league appearances.

Second Division (Now Championship)
1982 to 1987 - 153 league appearances.

Sheff Wed - 180 league appearances.

First Division (Now Premier League)
1987 to 1990 - 99 league appearances.

Second Division (Now Championship)
1990 to 1991 - 39 league appearances.

First Division (Now Premier League)
1991 to 1992 - 31 league appearances.

Premier league

1992 to 1994 - 21 league appearances.

Pearson made 333 league appearances at championship level or above before signing for Boro 1994, he went on to make 116 league appearances for Boro giving him career total 449 league appearances all at championship level or above.

Surprised you did not know about the changes to the English football league system and leagues names and which levels their represent today in the English football league system.

It is an easy mistake to make if most of the changes took place before your time.

I'm guessing most people under 40 will be surprised to know Shrewsbury Town spent the 80s as second tier club. I was surprised by that and that was I double checked because some times levels are wrongly listed on sites like wiki.

This was his first season as captain and it wasn't a good one by all accounts. Only captained QPR about 30 games.

He has only played 139 games at this level so struggling to understand why people are saying brings experience and leadership.

Considering he cost us nothing, plays in a position we need numbers, has experience in this division and has played under Warnock - I think he's a good signing.

Warnock was only at QPR for e a month before QPR decided to give the job to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. In that time he took charge of 3 off 4 games. You might remember QPR were without their interim head coach Neil Warnock for personal reasons when QPR visited Riverside Stadium.

Grant Hall did play those in those 3 games but he was not captain for any of them. At this point Grant Hall had only made 10 league appearances for QPR.

I agree to principles but don't believe he is good enough if we want to push on and aim for promotion.

I just see him some body that has took a place and large part of the salary budget from Squad for the next 3 years. I would have liked to think he was not part of plans for the first 11.
