Construction Sites Still Open..

Distributors shutting for materials
Manufacturers shutting for prices
Hotels shutting for digs

Limiting to groups of two or less and working a minimum of 2 meters away from one another.

Insufficient PPE, gloves & masks, no testing being made available insufficient hand washing facilities available.

This government has sat on it's hands for far too long and the loss of life is going to be on a horrendous level.

Why put construction workers at further risk of injury at a time when hospitals cannot cope with the extra demand?

For some perhaps. But my nephew basically works on his own all day. Sometimes with an electrician or plumber, but rarely in the same room unless they need a hand with something.

He called me today saying how stupid it was that he was allowed to work but he couldn't buy materials because all the builders merchants had closed.

I imagine the people whose bathroom he's installing will be quite happy to have a bathroom again.

Couldn't quite understand why photos of places like MGT showed many groups of lads stood right next to each other.

The problem is the word "construction" or "building", it's far too blanket and each site is very, very different.

Small, local, sites or sites where workers can work on their own, or maybe in pars with 2m separation, without mass briefings should be fine.

But any of these should stop:
Mass briefings
Work in offices (that's not isolated)
Fingerprint scanning
Mass inductions
Heavily populated sites that can't be split into sections
Sites will masses of crossover
Access gates requiring physical contact with opening mechanisms

But the thing is, if materials stop arriving then production goes through the floor, which makes it zero point in having most people on site, might as well send everyone home and go the furlow route, which will have massive economical impacts.

It seems to me that the government don't give a fluck about the working class, just looking after the suits/ office workers !![:(!]

The problem is that many companies have interpreted the government's guidance in their own way, which makes them believe that they can continue working. I live on a new estate where they are still building houses and the builders and other trades are all stopping today. Appreciate they have to do things to make everything safe, but from what I can they have, in the most part, been continuing as normal this week.
