It's going to be interesting to see what happens after all this is over. Many people were still living the effects of the financial crash 12 years later. Years of austerity has seen the the social fabric of society disintegrate, perhaps the moral fabric as well - which is often illustrated by a handful of posters on this board.

Masses of people are going to be much poorer across all sections of society. Many of the middle class and people who perhaps see themselves in a particular way - being affluent and ahead of the game, might have some soul searching to do. Adjustment will be needed and many egos will fall.

What ever one's take on this terrible situation, few would argue against the irony in relation to what has gone on in recent months and years. Hopefully a new way of thinking and an improved, fairer society can emerge.

It is interesting to note that some people classed as Key Workers are some of the lowest paid in society.

“ Hopefully a new way of thinking and an improved, fairer society can emerge.“ - I can see the opposite happening, a more self centred I’m alright Jack society emerging

Look at NHS for instance - people are already so grateful and supportive. This will surely not be forgotten afterwards.

Absolutely not.

Just like the Red Faction banner outside James Cook University Hospital right now.

Veterans have been neglected and forgotten. Different war with different people on the front line.

Sorry for being cynical but we will have more of the 'all in it together' austerity crap forced down our throats while the rich get richer and the less well off barely survive.

This is from the latest Private Eye magazine.

“ will any of the big winners in the corona virus induced stock market crash put their hands in their deep pockets to help those in need”

“Among them are Tory donor and chum of Boris Johnson Crispin Odey. His hedge fund has been betting against the stock market through the Brexit process but it had had a particularly healthy pay day in the last week. Among its short positions is a bet worth more than 3% of the stock of Metro Bank. Its drop of 50% in the last month and 30% in the last week has made Odeys fund millions.

Another winner is hedge fund Marcel Wace. Wace donated £500k to the Tory Party election campaign. Among the funds 32 significant short positions is a sizeable bet on travel company TUI. As its customer see their holidays disappear over the horizon, the Companys 60% share price collapse has brought Marshall Wace gains running into tens of millions of pounds”

Not everybody is suffering.

I noticed that the ones doing the bulk of the work in the NHS at the sharp end are 20-30 yr olds. The ones that now can't afford to buy a decent house and are saddled with student debt. About time we readjusted the system to ensure everyone benefits not just the baby boomers. The ones who have benefit from free education, cheap housing and a financial system that is loaded to ensure they are protected.....ps I am one of the said baby boomers.

Very difficult to predict what the world will look like after all this, but if ANYTHING was going to change things significantly in the Western world, this has to be it.

Fairer society!! No chance

This virus outbreak and the measures taken will/have destroyed the middle class - small business is ruined

We are moving to a small layer of rich who have done 'well' out of this (a lot of people Im sure were canny with their investments before this outbreak really blew up) and a massive layer at the bottom of society

It may appear that government is being generous at the moment with social spending but watch this disappear in time and we will be left with a far more unequal society, spending restrictions and massive social freedom powers in the hands of police and government

A more measured response may have avoided some of this but these are strange times

Looks like it will take a good while for a few moochers to give up wearing face masks.

We'll never have a fair society when there are idiots going around coughing in people's faces pretending they have the virus. It depresses me that someone could find that remotely funny.
