Government Help For Self Employed
Just been on to Citizens Advice for 45 minutes for advice for self employed as am sure my workload will dry up very soon. Outcome is because my wife works (although doesnt know for how much longer and doesnt earn a great wage) and we are home owners I will not qualify for any benefits or help. All i can get is job seekers allowance if I stop being self employed and make myself available for work.

Government Help For Self Employed
The bits I've read online suggest the government will be announcing something for self-employed people in the next few days. It's just taking a bit longer as it's more complicated to sort out.

Government Help For Self Employed
This is what the Gazette have quoted from the House of Commons today:

Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Mr Sunak said there were “genuine practical and principle reasons” to roll out a scheme for freelancers similar to that he has announced for employees.

“Of course there have been people whose incomes have been impacted by what is happening,” he said.

“But there are also millions of people who are self-employed whose incomes may not have been impacted and indeed might be increasing.

“The ability for the government to distinguish between those people based on tax returns that are over a year and a half out of date, poses some very significant challenges in terms of fairness and affordability.”

He added that the Treasury had been looking into measures in “intense detail” over the past week, but would not commit to a date when more help would be made available.

The payments to be made in subsection (2) are to be set so that the net monthly

earnings of an individual specified in subsection (2) do not fall below—

80 per cent of their monthly net earnings, averaged over the last three

years, or

whichever is lower.

No payment to be made under subsection (2) shall exceed £2,917 per month.

A statutory instrument containing regulations under this section is subject to

annulment in pursuance of a resolution of either House of Parliament.
