David O'Leary

Until the end of the season, seems to make sense to me. Ex gaffa of Woodgate and Keane so it feels less of a slight. Brings much more experience to the table and we can re-evaluated in the summer.

David O'Leary - Manager
Leo Percovich - Assistant
Jonathan Woodgate - Defensive coach
Robbie Keane - Attacking coach
Danny Coyne - Goalkeeping Coach

Thoughts?

A question rather than "thoughts'

What's he done over the last 10- 15 years to make you think he has the experience to get us out of this mess?

Hasn't manged in the UK for 14 years, and hasnt managed anywhere in 9 years - I'd rather have Michael O'Leary.

So basically the same set up as now with a manager that hasn't managed for years.
The same coaches that cant coach us to score goals or defend?
What could possibly go wrong

Everyone, we have finally identified Steve Gibson’s username on FMTTM...Newy.

Only our clueless leader could make a football related suggestion such as that.

Steve AKA newy, when are you gonna sell up?

You may as well just sack them now, bringing in another manager would totally discredit Woodgate anyway.

Jesus....thats possibly the most left field suggestion I've heard. I imagine his name has never been used on any board in 15 years.

Good effort[^]

Just to take the pressure off the management team for the next 11 games without having to totally scrap the project.

I think an experienced head in the mix could help with team selection, resolve any possible conflicts and steady the ship.

It feels a bit like panic stations at the moment and from the outside looking in looks like unnecessary mistakes are being made.

Everybody in the squad has to bring their a-game and we're under the kosh massively.. are these players ready to go to war?

That journeyman manager Simon Grayson is free. He was sacked by Blackpool a few weeks ago.

Football managers don't forget how to manage and of course we see many former players step into management at a much higher level than managing the Boro. O'Leary did a fantastic job at Leeds and he had them competing for the Champions League despite the club being poorly run and having plenty of mediocre players. He really had that Leeds team over performing. I think what happened at Leeds sickened O'Leary and he probably didn't want the hassle that management brings. But still, if he was keen for a return, it would likely be a good fit for Boro.

Assuming that the team is behind woodgate - It needs some of those experienced players to really step up and help out. Similar to southgate under Steve Mac - and leadbitter under karanka.

The fact that this isn't happening suggests to me that the squad isn't behind woodgate anymore and to be honest you can't just put a sticky plaster over that and expect improvements to be made.

Either the existing players really step up and work together to sort this out with woodgate and the management team, or the management team has to go.

I fear we are at the point where it is the latter.

RHM - he didn't have mediocre players, he had a very strong squad with lots of depth, especially up front. The club was badly run in his favour - lots of money spent on transfer fees and big wages.

When he went to Villa, with a more modest budget, he was unpopular, Villa were poor, and was sacked.

RHG. He helped Risdale go on a massive spending spree which at the time was unprecedented and reckless as it was funded by debt. . Seth Johnson purchase a prime example

Can hardly blame O'Leary for mismanagement of club finances. It had nothing to do with him. That was the chairman gambling on future Champions League involvement as well as a host of other things. O'Leary was actually privately speaking out against things that were going on. He also made players such as McPhail, Harte, Smith, Bowyer and even Woodgate to some extent look like world beaters.
