Coronavirus is a great excuse for any company that is struggling to make its numbers.

I can understand how it might affect an airline, but banks and cosmetics companies and drinks companies? No.

My shares are in REIT building companies and all dropped between 2 & 4% on Tuesday.....

Very strange but I can only guess that its linked to the FTSE.

Unless there has been some breaking news about the housing market that I have missed??

The US markets have been on an seemingly endless bull run. This will come as a relief to experienced investors. Trouble is, when you're just about to retire, you don't want a four or five year setback.

ďcan understand how it might affect an airline, but banks and cosmetics companies and drinks companies? ď

I can very much understand the concern across all companies. Banks lend to travel companies, and they support manufacturing companies that rely on Chinese supply lines, they rely on staff and so there is worry about future absenteeism. All sorts of risks across the sectors. Restrictions across imports and exports. Where there is a disk to commercial customers there is a risk to banks.

Invest in the makers of lemsip. If you are worried donít be. See this as a much needed correction.

Yeilds are not what you are going to get if you buy now. If a business has done badly, like say, Vodaphone or BT, the dividends are likely to dry up.
Choose carefully.

Market down again nearly 2% today. Risks ti all businesses are obvious

Increased and extended staff absenteeism.
Increased workload associated with prevention/contamination activities .
 A decline in services being offered by suppliers
 Decreased availability of services and supplies.
 Reduced demand for service.
 Restrictions, delays or the cancellation of movement of people both across the UK and internationally.
 Closure of venues and events. ( MIPIM is a big property shindig that will almost certainly be affected or cancelled)
 Financial impacts including but not limited to increased costs and decreased revenue.
 Increase of workloads due to supporting clients.
 Reduced access to key office spaces; staff may be required to work from home if it is recommended that people should not travel into city centres.
 Requirement to deal with confirmed and potential cases of the specific infectious diseases amongst employees, tenants and visitors.

Every big company will now have a risk mitigation policy for the virus.

I've been sat solely on cash for the past month, so look for an opp to do some buying. Might drip some into an ETF today and then continue over the next 2-3 weeks if things continue to go down hill.

For ETFs yes that can be the case as you're either using a passive tracker, or someone is actively working on your behalf. You can then hold out and think long term but not everyone is in for 30 years like yourself.

'The biggest fall in the markets since 2008'.

BBC News.

Sounds alarming, but most people will find that their valaution is back to the the middle of last year, or later, which sounds a lot better. The BBC should act more responsibly.

You can't time the market (although you might be lucky and think you have). 'Drip feed' it in over the next 6 to 12 months.
I can't retire now, most likely until I'm 70. Better get some of that anti-ageing cream from Boots for the job interviews.

It depends how fast your broker can do the trade. If it takes 2-4 days to buy/sell, then I'd leave it for now as it takes too long to reverse a decision. It will be months before there is any market confidence. (Of course it totally depends on what you're buying, healthcare for example.)

I had 4K wiped off my gsk shares in a week, I guess corona virus means people arenít going to get sick from other illnesses...

I work in aviation too so Iím kind of screwed at the moment, they are talking about grounding some of our aircraft and all OT has been cancelled. Was looking at selling my shares and buying a house but Iíll just have to sit tight for now.

Think my ex is going to be a bit more miffed as weíve been working out child maintenance every month based on 12% and up until now Iíve been doing 3 days OT a month.
