The scariest thing about this is the power grab that Cummings/Johnson are going for. Apparently one of the things Javid objected to was that Johnson wanted to divert powers from the chancellor to himself. Looks like he's going for a dictatorship

Its a disgrace that Cummings has so much power as an unelected official.

His relationship with BJ gives him massive power while at the same time being almost invisible.

Its time this bloke did a QT or better an in depth interview on what his real thoughts are. So far I don't think he has ever done either

Don't hold your breath, Cummings was found in contempt of Parliament for refusing to attend the Select Committee hearing into Fake news and allegations of illegality surrounding the funding and co-ordination of the Leave campaigns, of which he was the director of Vote Leave.

So what sanction did he receive? Have a guess.

Nothing.

It turns out, because we don't have a written, codified Constitution, a lot depends on decency and respect for convention.

As we have seen for the last four years, like no other, this current proto fascist brexit fixated Conservative Party has no respect for Convention, the Constitution, the Law, decency, democracy, the truth or the good of the country.

In fact Brexiters have decided to REWARD all that because nothing is more important to them. Then Cummings gets rewarded also.

Good luck stopping this from carrying on.

Tip of the iceberg.

Cummings is on a one man mission to reform the Civil Service to make it more responsive to the challenges of the 21st century.

Naturally he can't do it without Johnson's approval. But winning Brexit, getting Johnson as PM and winning the biggest majority in a generation for Johnson gives Cummings a certain amount of leverage.

He's no idiot Cummings. He's a nob, but he's not stupid. His blog was deliberately provocative to get a reaction and start a debate.

I think it's very unlikely we'll see the sweeping reform to the civil service he talks about, certainly not in the short to medium term. Changes take time to bed in and at the minute the government doesn't have time. Not to mention that Cummings doesn't have the power so would need to do it vicariously through ministers. Not impossible but difficult and Boris has bigger things on his plate.

There were strong rumours (many I suspect started by Cummings) of several big departmental mergers imminent and yet yesterday none happened. It might be they look to do something once Brexit proper is done next year, but even then the civil service will be working flat out because of course "brexit" and it's implications won't really be finished with for years.

By that time Cummings will have moved on I suspect.

In a way. Certainly find it fascinating how quickly he's been promoted to the Remainer's and anti-Tory's primary figure of hate, presenting him as a sinister super villain and comparing him to a Nazi/Hitler.

Can't ever remember a Spad getting as much attention as Cummings does. Even Alistair Campbell, or Andy Coulson, and both were far more controversial figures.

Seen Cummings described, among many other things as a "Self proclaimed genius" and "Career Psychopath". Seems to me he spends a lot of his time looking down his nose at people he sees as inferior (ie the rest of the human race). Other than that endearing trait, and his pleb's eye for an aristocratic wife, he doesn't seem to be a traditional Tory. Who could fail to be intrigued?

There is another important part to this that no one here is talking about.

Boris, rightly or wrongly, wants to take the shackles off public spending and in some ways reward those that voted for him (in the North) with infrastructure projects and other methods to help modernise Britain and reduce the gap between North and South.

Javid adopted a more old school Tory way of fiscal prudence.

In many ways the change may be good for the N East in particular and is what many tin here have been calling for? But i get it that this doesn't suit the agenda of most on here[|)]
