We concede so many crosses

We have a real problem with our full backs not stopping the cross coming in. Just seen the goals last night, first on Pears should do much better to get a hand to that and second one Coulson is just not tight enough!

Been a weird season, enjoyed it a lot but we are very much still in the mix for bottom 3 i'm afraid....

Coulson is a great threat going forward. Quick and tricky. Unfortunately he's just a passenger defending crosses. Just not strong enough. I think his future is more a left winger than full back.

Agreed, he doesn't get tight enough to the crossing man which is basics. We'll continue to concede goals as teams will just target our fullbacks....

'We have a real problem with our full backs not stopping the cross coming in.'

No support from a wide midfield man for either full back, one a stand in veteran, the other a young player in his first season.

It's why three at the back is the only way to go with the current squad.

We were vulnerable from crosses when Monk was manager and it was the first thing Pulis sorted out.

Pulis sorted it out by putting 4-5 CBs in the back line. It's something I would never want to see again (also ask any fans from previous clubs).

I would rather see Coulson and Spence bombing forward. It worked fine over Xmas.

The issue is we have now decided to bin wingbacks and go to a flat back 4. Just change what was working[rle]

I think this is really interesting.

We have a small keeper

He is not going to be at his best on crosses particularly against a tall player who actually jumps ( most don't)

It is one of the reasons why 3 central defenders and Pears actually appears to work

Definite food for thought

A lot is being asked of Coulson. People identify his weaknesses like hes the finished product and will not get better.

Seriously, the lads got talent and a great future. It takes time

Coulson's performance against West Brom was the best individual performance by a Boro player this season. Great in attack and stopped West Brom getting in crosses, particularly when that became their only game plan late in the game.

I noticed at the Brentford and Fulham games which I went to - how easy crosses were coming in - you never can stop everything put we seemed to have double coming in we should have had. Go back to 5 at the back will help, but wing backs have to defend too. I like Coulson but he is more of a wing back, possibly even left sided midfielder.

But he identified it as an issue and did something about it - maybe cracked a nut with a sledgehammer, but nevertheless he sorted it out.
