These wont last, only maybe London City.

Southampton is 222 one way, cardiff 250-300. Aberdeen £200+.

Ok if company is paying for a business trip.

As long as the business community use them they'll last. The Aberdeen flights have been running for years.

They're no good for the weekend away crowd and holiday makers.

By cheap you'll be looking at 70 quid one way.

I want the airport to thrive and more flights is great but you've got to get bums on seats. Eastern opening the maintenance dept at the airport will hopefully help.

Lizards don't think its a case of doing it down. Concerns are that Eastern are running it and prices will not be anywhere near comparable to other regional airports. I wonder just how many will use a Southampton and Cardiff flight on a regular basis. OK for the match next year if the Cardiff one is a decent price.

I actually think the cardiff one is most likely to succeed. No real competition from Newcastle or Leeds. Cardiff is a pain to get to by rail or road. The other routes have too much competition and the cost of the flights will mean pretty much only business travellers will use them.

Good news the number of destinations has increased.

Why can't the UK Governmetn subsidise flights from Teesside popped to putting hundreds of billions into a rail line that will stop at Leeds? and not be finished till 2040.

There are enough critics from outside the region (even though the vast majority of them have never visited or lived here), without having to worry about 'the enemy within'.

There's no doubt it's a good opportunity to generate inward investment i.e. financiers, entrepreneurs etc. flying up from London.

I just don't see the people of Teesside prepared to pay those prices to fly to those destinations for leisure purposes, or work requirements come to think of it.

I think people who doubt the announced routes (with the likely costs) will prove viable are doing Teesside down.

I think just about all Teessiders are desperate for it to be a success but it needs to be recognised that players in the airport market like Leeds-Bradford and Newcastle are equally desperate for it to fail.

Or they are just being realistic. If its £200-300 from Teesside or £40 return from Leeds, where are you gonna take your family of 4 via?

I doubt Leeds or Newcastle are even registering Teesside as a significant threat. They will be monitoring the situation, but most of their routes do multiple flight times a day and they have better facilities and sometimes even multiple airlines flying the same routes, so they're probably not that concerned. about a few expensive domestic routes, especially given Eastern's record.

Will happily support the airport once its a viable proposition, but am not going to support it just because its in the same town as me, if it is more expensive or less convenient flight times.

The thing is to get a flight at £69.99 you will have to book months in advance. To give you an idea eastern flights to aberdeen from teesside start from about 100 quid each way, but unless you book 4 or 5 months in advance you will find it difficult to get a flight for less than 200. You can usually get a flight for 20 quid or less from newcastle to dublin only a month or so in advance.

Oh really? There isn't a single day in the next three weeks when the fare is as much as £200, most days it's about £100. Let's not the facts get in the way though.

"This week Ryanair is offering flights from Newcastle to Dublin at "

And next week they are offering them from:

Monday £15
Tuesday £13
Wednesday £13
Thursday £13
Friday £65

Also your info above doesn't seem to tally well with my sky scanner search - most days are £169 which I agree isn't £200 but nor is it "about £100".There's a few days (12th, 13th for £99 example) but most days in feb are closer to £200 than they are £100. Some days on sky scanner whole month view say £100 but when clicked through individually, the price jumps. This also assumes you can take any flight time in the day.

I'd also assume if you need to be there for work/ a set time on Monday morning you'd be getting the Sunday flights, which are more expensive e.g over £230 on the 23rd. The cheapest flight on Monday 10th is £168.95, but thats mid-day getting you there for 12 past 1 - if you need to be there early doors, the cheapest is £238, same with Mon 3rd as you have to buy an "all in" ticket.

You are right Fair, i wasn't being scientific just using flights i have either flew on or looked at to use. My point being that eastern advertise flights to Aberdeen from 98 quid each way, I don't know any people that have flew at that price. So advertising flight from £69.99 each way to Dublin i am sceptical how many people will get a flight anywhere near that. The flights from newcastle to belfast and dublin which i have used a bit are advertised from 12 quid each way, i have never paid that usually around the £25 to 30 mark. The most I have paid was around 85 and that was on expenses, i doubt i would have paid that off my own back.

Newcastle to Dublin O/W on Ryanair, over the course of the next 30 days look like this (taken from Ryanair.com):

Over £100 - 4 days
£100 - £20 - 15 days
Under £20 - 11 days

I hope these flights are competitive but some of the prices above are just made up.

Whilst itís good news that MME has these additional routes, London City especially, as others have said the pricing structure has to be competitive, when I was working in Dublin I would pay, on average, £50 return from either Leeds or Newcastle similar price to and from Belfast when I flew in and out of there, even with additional costs to and from those airports it was still way under the £139.98 base price that Eastern Airways are offering, and that isnít taking into account the £5 terminal surcharge, the other routes may be more competitive but the Dublin/Belfast one looks overpriced given the regional competition.
